What’s Included in a Roof Replacement?

• Roof decking
  The wood boards that make up the roof’s frame should be inspected, and any that show signs of rot or decay should be replaced.

• Flashing
  Metal flashing is used anywhere the roof abuts something like a dormer or chimney. It’s also common in valleys.

• Shingles
  Shingles are the top layer and the first line of defense. These must be installed properly by professionals.

• Drip edge
  These metal strips are installed at the roof’s edge to prevent water from running underneath shingles.

• Underlayment
  This is used as an additional layer to protect the decking from torrential rain runoff in our climate or ice dams in colder parts of the country.

• Ridge capping
  This is a protective layer installed at the peaks to close gaps.

• Pipe boots
  Vents and pipes from plumbing need to be fitted appropriately with boots to stop any water from leaking in those areas.
